“Compendium of Traded Indian Medicinal Plants” released by Sri. Narendra Modi

Signaling support to AYUSH Herbal Industry, Honorable Prime Minister Sri. Narendra Modi released the book, which is written by researchers from TDU-FRLHT, Bangalore.

The book titled “Compendium of Traded Indian Medicinal Plants” was released by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, 5th June 2018. The book is written by K. Ravikumar, S. Noorunnisa Begum, D.K. Ved, J.R. Bhatt and G.S. Goraya.

This book covers 954 Traded Medicinal Plants including 178 species in the country in high volume trade and 776 species in low volume trade. For high volume traded species, vernacular names, description of the part in trade, trade information, taxonomic description, habitat, distribution in India and the world, medicinal uses, 736 plant photographs and distribution maps for 159 species that occur wild/ running wild/ naturalized are provided.

Only cryptic information such as accepted botanical names, widely used synonyms, trade names, parts traded, medical systems (viz., Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Sowa-rigpa, Homeopathy, Folk), brief botanical descriptions, distribution and habitat are provided for 776 species which are in low volume trade.

This book will be useful for wide range of stakeholders including herbal pharmacies, exporters and importers of medicinal plants, managers of our forest resources, researchers and regulatory authorities.
