TDU – TATA Trusts Fellowship

TDU – TATA Trusts Fellowship is available for students who have registered for PhD program in TDU.

The fellowship is available in the following thematic research areas.

  1. Cerebro-Neural Disorders
  2. Nutrition
  3. Drinking Water
  4. Malaria

Application are accepted from 16th January 2019 to 28th February 2019. Student can download the application from . Selected applicants will be called for the interview in the third week of March 2019.

The details on fellowship, selection criteria and the mandatory documents for submission are given below:

  • A total of 4 (four) fellowships are available. The selection of eligible students for the award of Fellowships will be on competitive basis. A committee appointed at TDU will select the four best research proposals out of the applications received and provide them with the letter of selection, which the student will attach along with his/her Tata Trusts application form along with other mandatory documents. TDU will forward the same to TATA Trusts.
  • Selected students will be provided Fellowship of Rs 50,000 each month along with a maximum contingency grant of up to Rs 1 lakh each year. The contingency grant can be used for purchase of laptops, books, subscription to data bases or journals, lab charges, travel for the purpose of research, etc. Student have to submit the actual bills for the usage of contingency grant.
  • The fellowship will be available for a maximum period of 3 years from the date of provisional admission to TDU Ph.D Programme.

Selection Criteria:

The selection criteria will be broadly based on:

  1. Student’s overall performance record including academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
  2. A crisp, achievable statement of purpose that is Trans-Disciplinary in nature.
  3. A good presentation and discussion of the statement of purpose before the selection committee.
  4. Should be a resident of India.
  5. Any other conditions specifically laid down by the fellowship sponsor.

Mandatory documents for submission to Tata Trusts by the selected candidates:

  1. Printed and completely filled TATA Trusts application form.
  2. Current year’s original PhD fee paid receipts.
  3. An original cancelled cheque and copy of the first page of the bank passbook pertaining to the student’s bank account.
  4. An original letter from TDU clearly stating the breakup of the fees, the category in which the student has secured admission, fees paid / to be paid and the amount of free ship applied for / received / to be received, for the current academic year. Duly signed by the Registrar of TDU.
  5. Mark sheets for the previous academic year duly self-attested.
  6. Latest Income proof of all the earning members of the family (2017-2018):
    • For those in employment – Copy of the Income Tax returns and Form No. 16
    • For those in self-employment – Copy of the Income Tax returns
    • For those in employment in the unorganized sector – Employer’s certificate on the letter head of the company.
  7. Copy of the PAN card of the student & parents

Other Terms and Conditions

  1. Submitting an application form to the TATA Trusts’ Office does not guarantee a Grant from the TATA Trusts. No explanation whatsoever would be given if the application is rejected.
  2. All documents submitted will be retained by the TATA Trust for its records.
  3. Apart from the above instructions, it is hereby informed that the decision of the TATA Trustees would be final and binding on all matters and on all persons pertaining to the application.
  4. Application forms with incomplete / manipulated / false information shall be treated as void and legal action will be taken as deemed necessary.
  5. The TATA Trusts do not have any intermediaries / agents. Applicants are advised to beware of such individuals that claim to represent the TATA Trusts and demand a share from the grant, if sanctioned. In case any such demands are made, applicants are requested to kindly bring the matter to the notice of TATA Trust Office immediately.
