Our Story

Genesis

The University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology (TDU) sponsored by the FRLHT Trust, was legislated by the Government of Karnataka, in 2013. The University promotes trans-disciplinary research and education. In the first decade of its existence it has focused on one domain viz., the interface of Ayurveda and Biology. It already has a substantial collection of Ayurveda medical literature and infrastructure for research in phyto-chemistry, genetics microbiology, molecular and cell biology. The university manages a 100-bed research hospital called IAIM (Institute of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine).

While Ayurveda-biology is one core focus in TDU, in future it is open to develop new trans-disciplinary foci in range of domains like biomedicine, life sciences, mathematics, logic, social sciences, environment studies, design, architecture, performing and fine arts, engineering, management and policy studies.

The TDU faculty is organized in the form of small specialized groups in different focal areas focused on building innovative outreach, research, and education programs. In 2023 these programs are related to community health, vocational education, conservation of medicinal flora, animal health, human health (neuro-biology, metabolism, malnutrition, microbiome, holistic nutrition, medicinal plants informatics and digitization of medical manuscripts) and clinical research

Our Founders Message

Innovation in University education is long overdue. In the 21st Century, Universities can no longer afford to continue to work with content and forms of education, that are over a century old. TDU seeks to be innovative in several ways. We view teachers as friends and mentors.
