Master of Science – Community Health by Research


The country has a big challenge in providing “Universal Health Coverage” to citizens. The MSc by Research program in Community Health aims to provide an opportunity to students to design innovative research projects to enhance health security of rural and urban communities.

Who is the course designed for?

Students who wish to create a social enterprise in health sector or to pursue a career in community or public health will find the course relevant. The course will help students who want to engage in PhD/ research in community health/ public health.

Students may acquire knowledge and skills suitable for a wide range of applications and careers in research centres, Government organisations, NGOs.

Duration and credits of the course

The MSc by Research is a 2 years course with 80 credits, 25 credits are for course work and 55 credits for project work. The course work will include: topics like Transdisciplinary Research Framework, Medical Pluralism, Biodiversity and Health, Research Methods, Community-Based Participatory Research, Health Policy and System Research, Scientific Writing and Reference Management, Ethics in Public Health Research and Health Financing. The project work is expected to be focused on real life problems relevant to community health. The students are expected to learn through their projects about the challenges associated with unmet health needs of the community, supported by AYUSH and/ or Bio-medical knowledge systems.

Selection process

Selection will competitive and based on:

  • Academic credentials and courses taken during Bachelors
  • A Statement of Purpose spelling out the motivation for wanting to enroll in this programme.
  • Two reference letters from faculty working in college/research institute who know you reasonably well.
  • Personal interview
