About the Course

The course requires earning 180 credits as mandated by the UGC, and consists of 60% vocational education of which the major portion is On-Job-Training (OJT). During the OJT of 72 credits spanning over 2000 hours spread over 6 semesters of approximately 20 weeks each, student gets hands on training with all the tools and equipment helping them understand practical issues and their handling within the refrigeration and cooling systems industry while working as Helper, Junior Technician, a Senior Technician or Team leader.

After completion of the course, students have a wide range of job opportunities working as team leaders/supervisors in AC Plants of Hotels, Malls, Offices, Large Societies, Data Centres etc. They can also work with after sales service eco-system of various companies and also take up assignments as Vocational Trainers. Those looking at further studies can pursue M. Voc. or PG Diploma courses in RACS. Candidates can also look at entrepreneurship opportunities after completing this course.

B. Voc. in RACS is a 3-year full-time graduation degree program, which covers the entire gamut of Refrigeration & Cooling System Industry.

These include Domestic and Commercial Applications of Air Conditioners and Refrigerators, their installation and troubleshooting. The course also covers new technologies, Controls and Safety & Precautions.

These courses are designed to be local courses, for students living in the local area, so unless you have family in either Bengaluru or Nipani with whom you can stay, you should wait for more locations and to be launched in the coming semesters.What is the language of instruction in this programme?The language of instruction is English. However, we will make sure that teachers and facilitators are bilingual in Kannada and English, to the extent possible, so that they can help students understand in a mix of languages.

Why do I have to visit the location where the course is being offered to pick up application forms when the application process can be online?

Where will I be working as an apprentice/ intern? Do I have a choice about where I will work?

As mentioned in the descriptions of the courses, you will be working full-time at the premises of industry and businesses. Our partners identify vacancies at these places and decide their intake accordingly, since each enrolled student is assured an opportunity for On-Job-Training (OJT). Will I be paid a stipend? If not, why not?

The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship provides incentives to companies to pay stipends. However, many companies only start paying stipends once the students have learnt the job and are useful to them, sometimes in the second year of the programme.Why do you say that students of this course highly employable?This programme gives students an edge over their contemporaries in other conventional undergraduate courses such as B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com., since they will have three years of work experience by the end of their course which makes them highly employable. Students will also learn in real-life situations, on functional, state-of-the-art, infrastructure available with their employers so they will be well trained.
