The Traditional Knowledge, Data Sciences, and Informatics Department preserves and advances traditional wisdom through documentation, digitization, and scientific validation. By integrating data science, GIS, and informatics, it supports drug discovery, biodiversity mapping, and educational tools while ensuring traditional knowledge remains relevant, accessible, and beneficial for modern healthcare and ecological sustainability.

The Traditional Knowledge, Data Sciences, and Informatics Department is committed to safeguarding and advancing traditional wisdom by integrating modern technological tools and scientific methodologies. Recognizing that much of this knowledge has been passed down orally, the department focuses on documenting, digitizing, and analyzing this invaluable heritage to ensure its longevity and relevance. By leveraging data science and informatics, it creates systematic repositories, databases, and platforms that facilitate the recording, validation, and application of traditional knowledge while maintaining deep respect for its origins. As part of its initiatives, the department collaborates with traditional knowledge holders to co-develop data science projects that ensure mutual benefits. It links traditional medicine databases with clinical research to support drug discovery, enhancing the scientific validation of indigenous practices. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are integrated with indigenous knowledge to map biodiversity, preserving ecological wisdom. Additionally, the department digitizes medical manuscripts, publishes rare books and dictionaries in Sanskrit, English, and regional languages, and develops innovative educational tools such as web portals, apps, and multimedia resources to promote preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare. Through these initiatives, the department ensures that traditional knowledge is not only preserved but also adapted and applied innovatively to address contemporary healthcare and ecological challenges.
