The Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of The University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology (TDU), Bengaluru, was established in 2007 to uphold the institution’s commitment to the highest scientific and ethical standards in patient and participant care, as well as in biomedical research—including clinical and community-based studies.
The primary responsibility of the IEC is to protect the rights, safety, and well-being of individuals participating in research. It ensures that all research involving human subjects, conducted by students, staff, and faculty across all entities affiliated with TDU, adheres to rigorous ethical standards.
The IEC operates in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),aligning with TDU’s core values and policies, as well as national and international ethical guidelines. Through this framework, the committee ensures that the dignity, rights, and welfare of all research participants are prioritized and protected.
The IEC secretariat is located at VYASA block of TDU. The member secretary along with the team ensures a smooth review and decision process for every proposal submitted. The approved protocols are monitored by a planned audit schedule as well as scrutiny of all documents submitted by the study teams.
If your research involves human participants, it is mandatory to obtain approval from the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) at TDU before commencing the study. All study protocols will undergo review by the Scientific Advisory Sub-Committee (SASC) and Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC).
1. Submit your study protocol in the specified format to the Member Secretary of SASC through e-mail.
2. The protocol will undergo an initial review by SASC members, followed by seeking a presentation from the Principal Investigator(PI).
3. SASC’s feedback or decision will be communicated tothe PI by the Member Secretary.
4. Approved protocols will be forwarded to the MemberSecretary of IEC for IEC review.
5. The protocol will be initially reviewed by IECmembers, and call for a presentation from the PI.
6. IEC’s feedback or decision will be communicated to the PI by the Member Secretary.
The review process typically takes 2 months. However, the duration entirely depends on the clarity of the scientific and ethical aspects in the protocol and the responsiveness of the PI to queries from SASC and IEC members
