AV Balasubramanian, TDU Board member and CIKS founder, promotes sustainable agriculture and traditional knowledge and has received honorary doctorates for his contributions.

AV Balasubramanian holds an M.Sc. in Chemistry from Bangalore University and a Post M.Sc. diploma in Molecular Biophysics from IISc, Bangalore. He later studied Physiology and Biophysics at SUNY Stony Brook. Since 1982, he has worked on Traditional Indian Sciences and Technologies, exploring their contemporary relevance. In 1995, he founded the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems (CIKS), focusing on sustainable agriculture. He has developed educational materials, conducted research, and supported farmers in establishing Producer Companies for organic farming and marketing. He has served on committees of the Government of India and editorial boards of journals like the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine. His interests include indigenous health, yoga, and traditional knowledge epistemology. He received honorary doctorates from Gandhigram Rural University (2010) and TDU (2021) for contributions to India’s medical heritage. He is a Founding Trustee and currently Director of CIKS.
